A Life In Gowns Part 1: Meet Avdeep

Ever wonder who we are when we're not all glitzed up, entertaining your little ones with our mad face paint and balloon skills, or dazzling them with our big bag of magic tricks? We're a group of diverse folk, each coming from a different performance background, and with a little bit of a different story.

Allow me to introduce: Princess Avdeep!

When she was little, growing up in India, Avdeep was always inspired by the gorgeous princesses she saw on TV, but the small town she lived in didn't have much in the way of princess merchandise.

Her grandparents lived in the US (where these things are abundant), and Avdeep would always ask them to bring her princess stuff when they came to visit, so she could play dress up and pretend to be a Princess herself.

Like any little girl, her favorite princess changed almost daily, but Sleeping Beauty made an everlasting impression with her elegance and charm. Avdeep had dreamed of becoming first an Astronaut, then a Dentist, but never imagined that being a Princess was something she could make a career out of. Then, after moving the US, Avdeep and her mother (who worked as a preschool teacher) were invited to a very special birthday party, which was also attended by our very own Merida. Avdeep was 16 at the time, and the only one of her age at the party, so she started chatting with Merida, asking her all kinds of questions about her job, and becoming more eager and excited every minute. After the party, Avdeep went right to her computer, looked Fire Pixie up, and sent in her application. Unfortunately, being only 16, she was too young for us to hire, but that didn't stop her! She waited patiently until her 18th birthday, and applied again.

Since then, she's done a ton of parties with us, and her hosts and hostesses absolutely love her!

Being darker skinned means she specializes in characters like Princess Jasmine, which (along with a Fairy Princess) is one of her favorite character to play:

"The Fairy Princess character is super flexible, and gives you a chance to really be yourself," says Avdeep. "The kids all love it, and you get to invent your very own Fairy story, instead of having to stick to something specific, so the character can grow and change along with you. Jasmine feels like a really natural character to me, and the kids really believe I'm the real Jasmine, and ask me all kinds of questions, which I love!"

Avdeep's entertained groups of kids ranging from 2 - 10, but especially loves working with the 4 - 5 age range, "Because they can have logical, interesting, reasonable conversations, but they still totally believe in magic."

A wonderful, silly, and engaging entertainer, Avdeep loves doing magic and seeing all the kids get excited and amazed. She's a fantastic face painter, too, and really enjoys the challenge when she's asked for a new (to her) design.

When she's not at parties or in school (Avdeep is a full time student, majoring in Political Economy, with a minor in Computer Science), she's likely playing in the great outdoors: skiing, skydiving, kite boarding, hang gliding or hiking. "Anything outside!" she says.

From all the parties she's done, one moment in particular stands out:

"All the parties are so special in their own way, but I remember one Fairy Princess party, after the face painting, the kids mobbed me and absolutely wouldn't let me go. They were tugging on my dress, and excitedly asking me all kinds of questions. This lasted for a long while, and Mom actually had to bring the cake in to distract the kids so I could leave!"

If you'd like to have Avdeep at your party to inspire your little girls to follow their dreams, you can book her here.
